AI Engineer (44010)

We are looking for an experienced AI Engineer for a modernisation programme in a regulated financial environment. The role combines legacy application and data migration with AI assistants and agentic workflows on Azure and PostgreSQL. You will work on code analysis and transformation, automated testing, knowledge bases and controls for AI output quality. We are looking for a senior technical professional with enterprise or banking experience, Azure expertise, a legacy-modernisation background and hands-on use of AI in software delivery.

🚀 Project
- use AI assistants and agentic workflows to analyse legacy code and documentation, extract and formalise business rules, and transform logic into the target environment
- convert data structures such as copybooks, VSAM, IMS and DB2 into a relational data model and validate migrated data
- build and maintain a knowledge base for the legacy estate, including code, documentation, extracted rules, mappings and decisions
- design retrieval and analytical approaches over code, data flows, job dependencies and datasets
- generate and run tests, compare outputs of the legacy and target systems, and validate solution equivalence
- establish AI controls: review outputs, define checks, manage agent context, and ensure traceability and auditability
- work with AI in line with security policies, approved tools and data-protection requirements
- collaborate with mainframe specialists and contribute to the target Azure architecture and phased cloud transition
- define shared agentic workflows and standards for the wider team

🎯 Skills
- 10+ years of IT experience, including at least 5 years in backend, enterprise or mainframe development or modernisation
- experience in banking or another regulated financial environment
- hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, application deployment and operations; AKS and Azure DevOps are advantageous
- experience migrating or modernising legacy systems, whether code or data
- daily practical use of AI assistants and agents across a substantial existing codebase, including analysis, refactoring, conversion and testing
- ability to validate equivalence between legacy and target solutions through automated testing and output comparison
- senior-level Java or Spring Boot and PostgreSQL experience; Python at least at a working level
- fluent English and experience collaborating in an international remote team

💡 Nice to have
- knowledge of DB2, VSAM, IMS, CICS or Assembler
- experience with Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Search, Azure AI Foundry or a comparable cloud AI stack
- knowledge of LangChain, LlamaIndex, vector databases, Neo4j or static-code-analysis tools
- experience with test-generation frameworks
- knowledge of AI governance, guardrails and control design for AI solutions
